Letting my baby leave the nest

The Creative Process: Embracing Vulnerability

As my husband and I are getting our youngest son ready to leave for his freshman year of college in a few weeks, I find myself asking "Is he ready yet?" The irony of this question is I can ask myself the same thing about sharing this project with the colleagues and friends I have made over my 25+ years of working in the Insurance and Employee Benefits world.

Starting something new is often accompanied by a mix of excitement and apprehension. It requires stepping out of your comfort zone and embracing the unknown. However, this vulnerability can also lead to self-doubt and the fear that your project may not be "ready." The truth is many creators grapple with this uncertainty. We often ask ourselves: Is my project truly complete? Is it good enough?

The Myth of Perfectionism

Something I strived for but often eluded me. Perfectionism can lead to endless revisions and a reluctance to share your work with the world. I often found myself balancing a cycle of overthinking, where the desire for perfection could have stifled taking action. This raises an important question: Does striving for perfection hinder our creative expression?

Learning and Growing Through Imperfection

As we embark on new projects, we should realize that growth often comes from imperfection. Each iteration, each failure, and each success contribute to our development. Embracing this mindset can help us improve all of our work over time. Here are some ways to foster this mindset:

  • Start Small: Break your project into manageable pieces. Focus on completing one step at a time.

  • Seek Feedback: Share your work with others to gain different perspectives and constructive criticism.

  • Embrace Mistakes: View errors as learning opportunities rather than setbacks.

  • Iterate: Allow yourself to make changes and enhancements as you progress.

Conclusion: Embracing New Beginnings

Poses and Prana feels like my baby, and now it's time for it to spread its wings and leave the nest. Just like a parent must eventually let go, I am ready to release this project and embrace the journey ahead, letting go of the pursuit of perfection.

This venture is a work in progress, and I am excited to explore new ideas and gather valuable lessons along the way. I invite you to join us and become a part of our growing community.
